This week, Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) will hold its annual Youth
Apprenticeship Summit, which introduces students to valuable opportunities available through the FCPS Youth Apprenticeship Program.

When: Thursday, December 18 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Where: Frederick Community College, 7932 Opposumtown Pike, Frederick

The summit will bring together high school sophomores and juniors, employer-partners, workforce
development professionals, and FCPS Work-Based Learning Staff.
The FCPS Youth Apprenticeship Program is a “learn-while-you-earn” initiative that enables students to
gain paid, supervised work experience in state-approved industries while earning high school credit and
industry-recognized credentials.

Summit highlights:
• Information sessions on the Youth Apprenticeship pathway and how students can apply
and qualify
• Career-development workshops led by FCPS Career Coaches, Work-Based Learning
Coordinators and local workforce agency partners
• An Employer Showcase where students meet and network with local businesses offering
apprenticeship opportunities
• Time for students to explore sectors such as manufacturing, information technology,
construction, health care, and more, discovering how apprenticeships can lead to
meaningful careers

Local employers who participate in the youth apprenticeship program often use the experience
to build and retain talent, helping students enter the workforce with relevant experience and
Credentials.
