FCPS Hosts Building Dedication Ceremonies at Two New Elementary School Buildings
Frederick County Public Schools celebrated the openings of the new Yellow Springs Elementary and Linganore Creek Elementary with ceremonial dedication ceremonies Wednesday, September 30.
Both ceremonies featured tours guided by students and were attended by state, local, and system leaders.
“We are deeply appreciative of the partnership and support we have from state and local officials to ensure these important projects could be successfully completed on schedule,” FCPS Superintendent Dr. Cheryl L. Dyson said. “I look forward to working together to ensure future building projects can move forward while we continue maintaining our existing buildings to support students.”
Replacement Yellow Springs Elementary
The new Yellow Springs Elementary replaced a building that originally opened in 1957. The new building has a state-rated capacity of 745 students and adds 300 additional seats from the previous building.
Linganore Creek Elementary
Linganore Creek Elementary is a new elementary school located at the intersection of Mussetter Road and Whiterose Drive near Md. 144. This building helped alleviate overcrowding on the eastern side of Frederick County. The new building has a state-rated capacity of 882 students.
FCPS Educational Facilities Master Plan
The Yellow Springs and Linganore Creek building projects were part of the FCPS Educational Facilities Master Plan, a 10-year blueprint that sets goals and addresses future school facility needs in response to enrollment growth. These projects are supported by county and state funding.
