FCPS Mathematics Vision

Every child in Frederick County Public Schools will master mathematical proficiencies, demonstrate productive dispositions, and develop the ability to apply those skills and understandings to thrive in college, careers, community, and the global society.

FCPS Mathematics Mission

We will build a vibrant culture of mathematics learning and teaching that is engaging, equitable, and empowering for all stakeholders. We will help our students become confident, flexible mathematical thinkers who persevere through challenges and learn to solve problems efficiently.  We will empower our students to develop and pursue curiosity and clearly articulate their ideas about mathematics. We will support our teachers with collaborative professional development, focusing on high quality resources and evidence-informed strategies, to create cohesive and rigorous math classrooms so that, together, we can foster a love of learning and ensure every student has the support they need to succeed.

Maryland College and Career Ready Standards for Mathematics

The Maryland College and Career Ready Standards (MCCRS) for Mathematics promote a clear and consistent progression of mathematics learning from PreK through high school. Throughout middle school and high school, standards continue to elevate fluency with a focus on algebraic thinking and algebra readiness.  The MCCRS for Mathematics also aim to intentionally blend algebra, geometry, and statistics standards into a meaningful, connected mathematics experience, while equipping students to pursue any secondary math pathway related to their personal college and career goals.

High Quality Instructional Materials

FCPS has adopted highly-rated, high quality instructional materials (HQIM) in core middle and high school mathematics courses (grade 6 through Algebra 2). Reveal Math, published by McGraw Hill Education, serves as the grounding HQIM resource for these courses, providing standards-aligned instruction and support for students as they learn mathematics.
